a collaboration worth buying: j.w. anderson x uniqlo

Have you heard the latest in high-low collaboration news? Uniqlo announced this week that their latest collaboration will be with London-based Irish designer Jonathan Anderson. Anderson is the creative director of two labels: his eponymous label and Spanish label Loewe.

Just when I thought collaborations were passe, this is a collaboration I can stand behind. There's something special in regards to a Uniqlo collaboration that focuses more on quality and up-and-coming designers that make their product appear beyond a commodity, even though it is. They focused on strong brand management where as other large retailers spoke to brand awareness and buying power. Previous notable collaborations included: Jil Sander, Carine Roitfield & Christope Lemaire.

As this is a J.W. Anderson collaboration and not a Loewe one, we can hope to expect from the men's collection with patchy knit sweaters, prints of all varieties, texture, or maybe the recreation of his fall 2013 collection that made me fall in head over heels for the brand.

There will be a women's collection in addition to the men's collection. If you understand the nuanced layers of the J.W. Anderson label, I wouldn't be surprised to see his customers shop from both the men's and the women's collection.

The collection won't be released until the fall, but if you recently payed off your credit card, you can buy his current collection at SSENSE.
